1. Can I play on phone the Video file from network drive?
This ability is NOT included in v.4.00. Playing the audio files is supported as well as opening all other network files except the video files.

2. Why my 3G or WLAN connection is still active after I exit SymSMB?
SymSMB is not just a Network Browser. It is also a SMB server which always running. And exiting the Browser doesn’t mean shutting down the server. So if you started Server Connection manually from Control Panel\Connections – you suppose to stop it manually, otherwise it will stay connected.

Also Server Connection can be opened automatically if you configured some “auto connect” option.

And when you playing with this please keep in mind that Symbian OS doesn’t close connections right away. For optimization reasons Symbian OS keeps connections ON for about a minute after they released by application.

3. Message "Host Unreachable", I am getting this error message after attempt to open Network Neighbourhood or Mapped Network drive while using the phone to access a computer. What should I do?

There are a few situations that could lead to this Error Message and most of them reflects the meaning of this message. However, on one rare ocation it is not a case. The typical circumstances for this situation are:
- access via IP address works fine;
- and at the same time in the same situation access via Computer Name leading to the “Host Unreachable” error message.

Sometimes for some unknown reason device failing to establish TCP connection to computer after successful name resolution. The situation is very rare and under investigation right now. If you have it - please contact our support with next information:
- your device information (model, installed and latest available firmware version);
- your WiFi router information (model, installed and latest available firmware version);

But first please ensure you are using the latest available SymSMB version/build.

As a work around you can try to change DNS address in Access Point settings/Advanced Settings/IPv4 settings from Automatic to your DNS IP address (you can figure it out using ipconfig command on your PC). For some reason this can fix the problem. But for another unknown reason you might not be able to use this Access Point with other applications (like Internet Browser and others).

Another possible reason is a firewall, blocking traffic via 445/139 ports. For example it can be part of antivirus software like Kaspersky, installed on your device. In this case you can ping your device but cannot access it's shares even by IP address. Just disable that software (at least temporary) to check if this is the case.

4. Uninstall previous version or install over?
You can do either way, but if you have previous version of SymSMB installed on your phone it is recommended that you will install new version over existing version as this will preserve all your existing configuration settings.

5. How to check the Firmware Version on the phone?
Use this code to receive the Firmware Version on your phone: #*0000# Type this code in the place where you usually typing the phone number to call.

6. I have a problem with Licence Download and Registration. What should I do?

7. Message "Trial license expired", what does it means?
In majority of cases the appearance of this message could means the following.
1. You or someone else have registered the Trial licence on this phone some time ago and the trial period is expired.
2. Current date settings on the phone are not correct. Please correct it if needed and try again.

8. What could prevent connection from computer to phone's shared folder?

a). At first, please check User Name and Password on the phone and make sure that it is the same as User Name and Password that is used from computer side in attempt to connect SymSMB shared folder. To make sure that everything is correct, please re-type password in SymSMB. Consider to do the same with password on computer if you have any doubt. Pay attention to the Capital letters (Caps Lock), possible language switch, spaces at the beginning, end and between letters in the password string. Please check the User Name on phone and computer as well.

b). Check if Permissions to access Shared Folder on the phone are correctly configured for the same User Account that is used from computer side in attempt to connect SymSMB shared folder.

c). Check if some antivirus/firewall software on the phone, for an example "F-Secure" (pre-installed on some Nokia's phones), could create this situation. Disable/uninstall or reconfigure this software and see if there is a difference.

d). Check if some antivirus/firewall software on the computer, could create this situation. Disable/uninstall or reconfigure ...

e). Check if router could block or redirect some information. Disable or reconfigure ...

f). If you are using connection over Internet, check if Internet provider could block some information. Contact or change Internet provider if quality unrestricted access is important for you.

9. I am trying to use SymSMB to copy files and I am a little bit confused. I am getting message "Copied", but I can not figure out where does it go? I can’t find the files anywhere. What is wrong?
The Copy Operation in SymSMB is the same as in Windows - it is 2 stage operation - Copy and Paste.

1. Mark file(s) or whole folder(s) that need to be copied.

2. Choose the "Copy" option (Options>File>Copy). The message "Copied" at this stage means that the information about needed files is copied, not files itself! Sorry, probably this part may be confusing at the first time.

3. Navigate to place where you would like to have those files.

4. Choose the "Paste" option (Options>File>Paste). At this stage the copy process will start.


So, Copy and Paste, also the same way can be used Cut and Paste.

10. How to find out the IMEI code of my phone?
Instead of entering a phone number to call just enter *#06# on your phone, your IMEI code will be displayed.

12. We are thinking about reviewing SymSMB on our website. Do we need to have the software licence in order to test the full features of this program?
In order to make testing and reviewing of the software more easy and convenient we have included the Full functionality in the Trial version already! Therefore, all functionality could be tested in the Trial version and there is no need to have legitimate licence for this matter. If you are planning on real big and serious review and 14-days trial period could be not long enough for you, please contact us and we will extended it for you. Please include in your EMail the IMEI number(s) of the phone(s) that you are using for the tests.

14. What payment options are available?
A few payment options are available.

I. PayPal - this is the default option implemented on our website. Recommended option, it is fast, secure and fully automated, you licence will be ready in a seconds after payment is made.

II. To pay via credit card or use other payment options, please click click here. With credit card payment licence usually will be ready in 24-48 hours during business days. Others options in this case may delay licence creation even more.

III. Moneybookers.

IV. Yandex.

Moneybookers and Yandex are a newly added options. If you would like to use one of them, please contact our customer service for more details.

15. Message "Resource is in use" after starting SymSMB connection, what does it means?
Connection start process among all trying to register 2 Network Names: unique Connection Name (analogue to Computer Name on PC) and Workgroup name. This 2 names shouldn't be in conflict with other existing Network Names. I.e. there shouldn't be any computer in the network with such name and no Workgroup with name, same to SymSMB Connection Name.

16. How to find out the MAC address of the phone?
Instead of entering a phone number to call just enter *#62209526# on your phone, the MAC address of the phone will be displayed.

17. What if I bought a new phone or my old one was replaced by manufacturer, can I transfer my licence from one phone to another in these cases?
Yes, you can.
To transfer your SymSMB licence from one phone to another please follow this link.
Currently that automated service is not allowing to transfer UIQ3 licence to Series 60 3rd and vice versa.
In this case you should contact customer support by Email.

19. What about S80 phones?
Unfortunately, right now we do not have SymSMB version for Series 80 phones and we are not planning to have it in the nearest future as we are quite busy with other already existing projects.

20. How do I change the sound level in the audio player?
Use rocker's Up & Down key but not the buttons on the side. Surprisingly, this and other information could be found in the User Guide for SymSMB v.4.00.
